Brake Oil

Brake oil, commonly referred to as brake fluid, is a vital component of a vehicle's braking system. It transmits force from the brake pedal to the brake components, allowing for effective stopping. Here's a comprehensive overview of brake oil:

Types of Brake Oil:

  • DOT 3: A glycol-based fluid suitable for most vehicles, with a boiling point of about 205°C (401°F). It absorbs moisture over time, which can reduce braking efficiency.
  • DOT 4: Also glycol-based but has a higher boiling point (around 230°C or 446°F). It's commonly used in vehicles that require better performance under high temperatures.
  • DOT 5: A silicone-based fluid that does not absorb moisture. It is used in some specialty vehicles, such as military vehicles, due to its properties. However, it is not compatible with glycol-based fluids.
  • DOT 5.1: A glycol-based fluid similar to DOT 4 but with a higher boiling point, making it suitable for high-performance vehicles.

Applications

  • Automobiles: Used in the hydraulic braking systems of most cars and trucks.
  • Motorcycles: Essential for the braking systems, ensuring safety and responsiveness.
  • Heavy Machinery: Used in hydraulic systems for braking and other functions.
